A while ago, I drove down to LA to get my car repaired. On the way back, I stopped at In-and-Out for a quick lunch. As I sat alone eating my burger, an older gentleman came to my table and exclaimed that he loved my dress. With the biggest smile on his face, he went on to explain that he loved because it reminded him of the “old days” and ultimately, his late wife. It was such an unexpected compliment because honestly, I’ve never given much though about how our clothing has an effect on those around us, even strangers that pass us by. Of course, the way we present ourselves through our clothing subconsciously sends a signal to others (and that’s a whole different post haha!) but I think it’s often overlooked when you dress for yourself and not for others 🙂

Here are the top 5 reasons why I love dresses:

Dresses Are Comfortable

To me, dresses are the most comfortable thing ever! I know this isn’t true for everyone but I will take a beautiful dress over a pair of jeans any day! That’s not to say that I’m against jeans or anything… I know that so many of you adore them and that’s exactly how we should feel in our clothing. Despite what some may think, I wear them too and they do have a place in my wardrobe 😉 However, since I’m very pear-shaped anddd petite, it is always so difficult (sometimes impossible lol!) to find jeans that fit correctly, if at all. And even then, I feel confined and very uncomfortable. When I wear a dress, I feel free! I’ve worn them in some pretty unconventional settings (on a hike, when I’m cleaning, at the airport) and I’ve never had issues with feeling uncomfortable. Although, a windy day is a different story ha!

Dresses are Easy to Wear

This might be one of favorite reasons for wearing dresses! Instead of picking out and physically putting on multiple items, you literally just throw one piece on and you’re done – it’s like magic! And somehow even through that laziness, it looks like you’ve put in an incredible amount of time and effort into your outfit. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love styling outfits and putting together multiple items but I’m also a busy lady so wearing a dress makes sense when I’m in a time crunch. Plus it helps that they make me feel like million bucks and always look perfectly put together.

Dresses Are Flattering

In my option, dresses are inclusive and universally flattering for every shape and size. Wearing certain cuts can accentuate or minimize specific areas to make you feel more confident in yourself, which I feel like is the most important thing when it comes to getting dressed everyday. Instead of hiding your body, dresses celebrate it and flatter in the best possible way. You should feel good in what you wear, whatever that may be, and it should fit in a way that makes you feel like your best self.

Dresses Are Classically Feminine

For as long as I can remember, I’ve always been drawn to a more feminine way of life. Picnics, tea parties, and flower picking are the norm. I love vintage films, bows as big as my head and a good ruffled detail. This is who I am. I also respect the art of femininity and what it means to be a woman not only in the modern world but in the past as well. This does not mean that you have to be a feminine person to wear dresses and vice versa as there are no prerequisites to wearing a certain style of clothing. But for me personally, wearing dresses is just another thing that emphasizes my love of all things feminine.

Dresses Are ME

This is the most important reason of them all – I like to wear dresses because they are 1000000% ME. I don’t wear because I feel like I have to or because I’m trying to be someone else. People often ask me if I really do wear all of these poofy, frilly, ruffly things in real life and the answer is yes! What you see is what you get with me. While I’m not wearing a ballgown everyday, I am most certainly styled in a way that make me feel good about myself. Dresses elevate my mood almost immediately and make me feel confident, beautiful, powerful, and most like myself so why wouldn’t I want to feel like that every day?

In short, wear things that make you feel happy, confident, and beautiful (and it absolutely does not have to be a dress – I promise that we can still be friends lol!). Whether that’s a great pair of jeans, a studded leather jacket, a fuchsia pantsuit or a sequined skirt, make sure you are wearing it because it makes you feel good. That is true personal style and that’s what makes you YOU. There’s so many benefits of wearing dresses -these are just a few of my favorite.
