SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie | Tasty gameday dessert recipe! (1)Labor Day weekend is one of my favorite times of the year…and it’s almost here! For starters, it’s a long weekend. (That alone is a reason to celebrate!) It’s also the unofficial start of Fall which is my favorite season. But more importantly, it’s the beginning of football season. I always enjoyed watching football as a kid, but it wasn’t until I moved to Louisiana after college that football became a way of life. Somehow baseball claimed the title of “America’s game.” Forget that…everyone knows America’s game is reallyfootball!

SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie | Tasty gameday dessert recipe! (2)With football season almost here, it’s time to start getting tailgating snacks in order. Chips? Check. Burgers and hotdogs? Check. Cold drinks? Check. But what about dessert? Dessert is often overlooked when it comes to tailgating or watching the big game. So I propose that we fix that…starting with this awesome SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie!

It’s still hot down South. I may live in upstate New York now, but I remember many an early September weekend sitting in stadiums under the blazing sun. That’s where this SNICKERSIce Cream Pie comes in. Not only is it delicious and easy to make, but it’s cold. Cold is good when the temperature on the field is still in the upper 80’s…in the evening!

SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie | Tasty gameday dessert recipe! (3)One of my favorite commercials from the 90’sis the Snickers’ one where the guy painting the end zone misspells the team name. The absolute best part comes at the end when he says, “Great Googly Moogly.” I’m pretty sure I walked around for at least a month trying to use that phrase as often as possible. I challenge you to use it. Today. Tomorrow. The next day…it doesn’t matter when. Just work “Great Googly Moogly” into a conversation. I guarantee that you’ll get some good looks! (Ok, maybe strange looks is more accurate…but you’ll have fun doing it!)

This SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie is a definite favorite in our house. I was walking through the candy aisle at Sam’s Club the other day, and I spotted the big box of SNICKERS bars. That bad boy ended up in my cart without much hesitation. But then I saw the big bag of MARS fun size candy bars. Well, I needed that, too. What if I only want a little bar as a snack? Yeah, I needed both! That’s how I roll.

SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie | Tasty gameday dessert recipe! (4)It had been a while since I’d made this SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie, so I decided to make one for the weekend. I had plenty of SNICKERS, and I even threw some chopped Milky Ways into the middle of the pie along with the caramel. Does that sound like the perfect dessert for the 2nd half of the big game or what?

SNICKERS Ice Cream Pie | Tasty gameday dessert recipe! (5)I usually use french vanilla ice cream because that’s my wife’s favorite…but I’m pretty sure this pie would taste amazing with coffee ice cream! Hey, that game might go into overtime…and you’ll need that extra boost of caffeine. So here’s to the beginning of another season filled with exciting games and even better parties!

Calories: 669kcal

Ingredients

For the Crust

  • 24 chocolate sandwich cookies separated and filling removed
  • 2 Tbsp light brown sugar
  • 5 Tbsp unsalted butter, melted

For the Caramel Sauce

For the Filling

  • 2 quarts vanilla ice cream
  • ½ cup Caramel Sauce
  • 12 "fun-size" Milky Way and Snickers bars chopped
  • 4 full-size 1.86-oz Snickers bars, chopped

Instructions

For the Crust

  • Using a food processor or mini-chopper, pulse the chocolate cookies until finely ground. In a medium bowl, combine the cookie crumbs, brown sugar and melted butter. Stir until fully combined.

  • Press the crust mixture into the bottom and sides of a 9” tart pan. (Tip: A flat-bottomed glass helps pack the crust mixture down evenly.)

  • Bake crust at 350°F for 10 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool.

For the Caramel Sauce

  • Place the sugar in a heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium heat. Whisk the sugar constantly as it begins to melt. (Tip: Use a larger saucepan than you might think because the mixture will bubble up when the other ingredients are added!)

  • Once the sugar has fully melted and turns light caramel in color, remove pan from heat and add the butter. Stir until butter has fully melted. (Note: The mixture will bubble up rapidly once the butter is added, so use caution.)

  • Slowly whisk in the heavy cream. (Tip: If the caramel seizes up when you add the liquid, you can place it back over low temperature and whisk constantly until it turns into a thick sauce.)

  • Let cool at room temperature for at least 20 minutes.

For the Filling

  • Spread half of the ice cream over the Crust. Place pie in the freezer until firm.

  • Spread Caramel Sauce evenly over the ice cream. Sprinkle with chopped Milky Way and Snickers fun-size bars. Place pie back in the freezer until firm.

  • Spread remaining ice cream over the top of the caramel layer. Place pie back in the freezer until firm.

  • Press chopped full-size SNICKERS bars into the top of the pie. Freeze at least 2 hours, or until firm.

Notes

I've included the recipes for a homemade crust and homemade caramel sauce, but you can certainly substitute store-bought versions of both to save time!

  5. Soooooo…I don’t like football..am so not down with it…but – stop – don’t knock me in the head with that burnt bread from yesterday because – Great Googly Moogly this pie does NOT need a tailgate party to be enjoyed – this pie should be put on a pedestal and devoured…slowly…with eyes closed after every mouth…oh Great Googly Moogly scrap that idea – I just remembered am lactose intolerant! GAH!!

    Reply

    1. Oh no! Maybe use a lactose free ice cream? I can’t stand the thought that this pie is sitting here and you can’t take a bite, Shashi! But…you do deserve a bonus slice for using Great Google Moogly twice (!) in one paragraph. Too bad you can’t eat that slice…maybe you’ll just have to give it to me instead. 🙂

      1. Great Googly Moogly Noooooo way am I gonna give you my piece instead! I will take the stomach “discomfort” that will ensue – besides, I might be able to clear the room with said “discomfort” leaving ALL the pie for me!!!! Oh Great Googly Moogly – am giddy with anticipation! 🙂

        Reply

        1. Hahaha…you win the award for most Great Google Moogly’s in a day, Shashi! But if you steal the rest of that pie, then I might have to take that award back away from you. You’ve been warned!! 🙂

Now I know I’m dating myself, but my favorite football commercial ever starred Dan Marino and Joe Montana.

  9. Stop it! I am obsessing over this ice cream pie! I am photographing a reeses ice cream pie this morning…well, I should say I am procrastinating photographing a pie this morning because I am convinced it is going to just melt and look terrible. Yours looks delicious!! Mmm snickers.

ps-I tried commenting on your pancake post because I can’t even with that butter pecan cream and syrup…but TapInfluence hates me…so sorry

    Reply

    1. Thanks, Lindsey! I gotta say that photographing ice cream is one of the hardest things ever. I literally went through every slice of this pie trying to grab a couple pics of each before it turned into a bit melted mess. But then I just scraped all of the melted bits back into a container and refroze them…and they tasted amazing! I can’t wait to see your Reese’s pie!

And boo on TapInfluence hating you.

      Reply

      1. hahahah that is totally what I do too! I always serve with the disclaimer: the texture may be a little off because I totally scooped that into a bowl, photographed it until it was hideously melted, and then put it back in the container to refreeze for consumption. #sorryimnotsorry

  10. 12 each of the fun size candy bars or just 12 total?

    Reply

    1. Hey Karen! That’s a great question. It’s 12 total of the fun-sized bars, and you can mix-and-match what bars you use. I hope you enjoy this one! It’s a fun way to celebrate warm days…even if those warm days are coming to an end soon. Cheers!
